The Law on the Right to Information numbered 4982 came into force on April 24, 2004.
This Law aims at ensuring that people use their right to information in line with principles of equality, impartiality and openness as required by a democratic and transparent government.
In accordance with this Law,
- Foreigners domiciled in Turkey can exercise the right to information in this law along with Turkish citizens on the basis of the principle of reciprocity.
- Our citizens are allowed to get information on activities of the public institutions and the professional organizations which qualify as public institutions.
- The foreigners and legal persons domiciled in Turkey are allowed to request information related to their activity fields as well.
- The application is made through a petition, by filling in the printed form determined by this Law or by fax or email.
- The application must include the name, surname, residence or the work address of the applicant and the signature;
- The application for access to information should relate to the information or the document that the institutions which are applied.
- The applications made for benefiting from the Law on the Right to Information are answered in 15 days.
- The applicant whose application for access to information is rejected may appeal to the Board of Review of the Access in a written form within 15 days.
- The Board makes its decision on the issue in 30 working days.
